Overview

ILS Inc. is seeking a Business Analyst to support a federal IT modernization initiative. The successful candidate will gather and translate business requirements into user stories and UI mockups, working closely with technical teams to deliver functional, user-centered solutions. This is a hybrid role requiring on-site presence two days per week at our Fairfax, VA headquarters..

 

MUST BE LOCAL TO DC METRO AREA (hybrid support - 2 days in ILS HQ office, located in Fairfax, VA 22033).

 

Must be able to be W2 employee; no C2C.

Responsibilities

  • Elicit, analyze, and document functional and technical requirements from business stakeholders.
  • Translate requirements into clear and actionable user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria.
  • Design wireframes and UI mockups to support application development using tools like Balsamiq, Figma, Adobe XD, or Axure.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, developers, testers, and product owners to refine and validate designs.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and daily standups.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by creating test scenarios, coordinating test activities, and validating results.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and ensure traceability of requirements throughout the development lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst supporting software development projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to create UI mockups and wireframes that convey business and design intent.
  • Proficiency with Agile development practices and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas visually and interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding of application architecture, workflows, and APIs.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple workstreams.

 

Preferred Skills

 

  • Experience on federal government IT projects.
  • Familiarity with AWS, cloud-native application requirements, or digital service modernization.
  • Knowledge of UML, BPMN, or prototyping tools.
  • Involvement in Section 508 compliance reviews or user-centered design processes.
